Style Awards Judges Panel

Celebrity friends of clothes show collated a shortlist for the Style Awards Categories Make Up Artist of the Year, Photographer of the Year and Stylist of the Year Award. The finalists were determined by the British media and announced at the Awards ceremony on Friday 25 June.

Hilary Alexander

Hilary Alexander

Hilary Alexander is the Fashion Director of The Daily Telegraph. She has worked at the newspaper for over 20 years.

Hilary has twice been awarded the British Fashion Journalist of the Year at the British Fashion Awards - first in 1998, and then in 2003. She has also been awarded the title Visiting Professor by the University of the Arts, London, and an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Design (DDes) from Nottingham Trent University.

Hilary has extensive broadcast experience - she is often asked to provide a breakdown or comment on the latest trends for shows such as GMTV, BBC Breakfast and various documentaries for BBC1, BBC2 and Channel 4. She is also regularly approached by radio stations and Sky News for her expert views.

Hilary is valued as a judge on various panels – such as the Bright Young Gems at International Jewellery London, awards held by the Ethical Fashion Forum, and is a member of the British Fashion Council’s Press Committee.

She is the regular stylist and presenter for the Designer Catwalk shows at the annual Clotheshow Live in Birmingham and London.

Born in New Zealand, Hilary a passionate traveller – her extensive reporting from the international catwalk shows for The Daily Telegraph and styling of her fashion pages sees her indulge in her love of going to new places.

 

Caryn Franklin

Caryn Franklin

Former fashion editor of i-D Magazine, Caryn Franklin is a nationally known British fashion expert having been the original presenter of the BBC’s Clothes Show for 12 years as well as Style Challenge, Style Academy, and Frock and Roll Years to name a few.

Caryn has consulted for many fashion brands and written for magazines and newspapers, as well as producing 4 books and numerous documentaries. Her latest project co-founded with Erin O’Connor is the award winning All Walks beyond the Catwalk campaign aimed at promoting diversity and individuality within the fashion industry. Caryn is also co-chair of Fashion Targets Breast Cancer.

     

Brendan Courtney

Brendan Courtney is a broadcaster both in Ireland and the UK, currently presenting Off the Rails on Ireland's No 1 channel RTE. A critical and ratings hit, Off the Rails takes on focus to building people's esteems and confidence by restyling their appearance.

Having presented and produced The Clothes Show on UKTV for 3 years alongside Caryn Franklin and Louise Redknapp, Brendan went on to study at London's premiere institution for design and established a hugely successful styling and fashion advice service at ihatemylook.com.

Brendan began his TV career in Ireland as a researcher before creating and presenting RTE 2's hit internet chat room dating show, Wanderlust for 4 years in Ireland. The format was sold to 11 countries and was picked up by Living TV in the UK. Brendan also attracted attention while presenting his self-titled talk show; The Brendan Courtney Show which aired on TV3 in 2005 and 2006.

Brendan was honored when asked to host RTE's 40th anniversary celebrations, which was closely followed by Irelands reality show Treasure Island. Since then, he has presented and produced many TV shows with his very own production company - Giant Film & TV, here in the UK. His self-authored documentary Alias Ricky Gervais was Bravo's highest rated show in 2006.

Lee Lapthorne

Lee is currently researching the production of sustainable art pieces that combine textiles, photography and the digital image. This research is an extension of his completed Masters degree in textiles and national public art works. Lee’s passion is the creation of images (principally photographic) and their manipulation through textiles. He has completed many art commissions.

Lee also produces a stunning range of exclusive scarves and hoods – each one is unique in design and a wearable piece of art.

Broken Hearts

Well-known for their distinctive brand of spectacular DJing, the Broken Hearts have played some of the most exclusive venues in the UK, as well as shows throughout New York, Paris, Moscow and Milan. Their eclectic sets have been described by The Independent as "a Hollywood musical on hallucinogenics”, and they have played for brands such as Selfridges, Topshop, Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood and Pernod Ricard.

 They have presented shows on Diesel Radio and QRadio, where their weekly music and culture show was described by Lauren Laverne as “a 60-minute shimmy across a different musical landscape every week."

Their debut single 'Black Cat/Blanco', a collaboration with the musician Whitey, was described by Nylon magazine as "sinuously sinister;" and their 'Broken Hearts for Beyond the Valley' womenswear collection is available on asos.com. They have been featured throughout the style and fashion press, including British Vogue, i-D, and Grazia, including appearances at number 16 in the Observer ‘Cool List’ and at number 6 in Elle magazine's 'Hot 20'.

Nick is currently in the top 100 most influential people in PR (PR WEEK 2009). He is an expert in celebrity,fashion and lifestyle and has worked with some of the biggest celebrity and lifestyle names in the world andwas named Communicator of The Year at The Scottish Fashion Awards 2009.

Nick is the Celebrity Style Expert for the National Television Awards, ITV2 giving the lowdown on the redcarpet fashion disasters and successes. Nick was the mentor and fashion stylist on the flagship Living TV show ‘Diet on the Dance Floor’ and was also the new judge on Project Catwalk 3 for Sky One offering advice and his opinionated views to the contestants. Other credits include winning Celebrity Ready Steady Cook, being the lifestyle expert on GMTV, LK Today, Market Kitchen, and the celebrity correspondent for the hit Canadian entertainment show, E! Talk Daily.

Nick offered his advice on Jordan and Peter Laid Bare and was the party / wedding planner for Michelle and Andy’s Big Day, both for ITV2. Nick hosted the gourmet guides for the Sky One show Taste and was also the lifestyle sidekick for the Russell Grant Show, Sky One.

Andy Turner

Andy is a trained dancer and choreographer with a professional background in contemporary dance and choreography.  Andy’s work involves all flavors of dance, from classical to street, urban to contemporary. He has worked with a whole host of mainstream artists and companies, on a variety of events, such as major PA’s, TV to Fashion and Hair Shows, both in the UK and abroad.

Andy prides himself on delivering strong material time after time, whether they’re high energy routines or stunning editorial fashion catwalk productions.

Some of his clients include L’Oreal, FHM, Wella, Redken and Salon International. At the end of 2004 , Andy choreographed the Galaxy / Urban Menswear Fashion Show at the Clothes Show Live held at Birmingham NEC. From this he was asked to choreograph the main stage, at Clothes Show Live, sponsored by Nokia. Since then he has choreographed and was also part of the artistic direction for the Clothes Show Live 2006, 2008 and has Clothes Show Live 2009 which was held in London and Birmingham.

Andy has appeared as guest choreographer and judge on Britain’s version of the highly successful, America's Next Top model where he taught them the nature of the business and what can be expected. Andy's work also includes the ICC World Twenty 20 cricket, 'Britannia High', ITV Musical Drama, where he choreographed and worked closely with Arlene Philips.
He has worked with many celebrities from the pop world such as Seal for the Mobo Awards and Sonique at the Brit Awards and other acts from all over Europe.

Andy is currently choreographing the Clothes Show London which is taking place at Earls Court.
